Our Commitment to the Planet
At Boatilus, we believe little shoes can make a big difference. As parents ourselves, we know you want footwear that’s not only comfortable and hard-wearing, but also kinder to the planet your children are growing up in.
Our aim, both as a brand and as a business, is to have as close to zero impact on the health of our world as possible. That commitment shapes how we design, source and manufacture every pair of Boatilus shoes.
Sustainability isn’t an afterthought for us — it’s built into every step. From carefully chosen natural and plant-based materials to fully recyclable single-material designs, every pair is created with the future in mind — so your child can explore the world while helping to protect it.
Designed for Circularity
- 100% single-material recyclable - All of our shoes are designed as single-material products. That means no elastic, no metal, and no mixed components that make recycling difficult. When their adventures are complete, they don’t have to end up in landfill — or floating in the ocean for decades. Instead, they can be recycled and given a new life.
- Natural and mineral materials - We prioritise natural, plant-based and mineral components wherever possible. Our soles incorporate natural calcium derived from recycled oyster shells, replacing up to 15% of traditional materials.
- Non-toxic materials - Our collection is made from non-toxic, bio-natural materials, free from phthalates, phenol and latex, helping to reduce chemical pollution.
- Recyclable thermal insoles - Even our thermal insoles follow the same principle. They are made from recycled PET (Polyethylene terephthalate made from recycling water bottles ) and are fully recyclable themselves, ensuring every part of the shoe aligns with our circular design approach.
- Our Thermal Alu-Protect lining in our winter boots is made using recycled drinks cans and ensures our boots keep toes and feet warm in winter.
- Made in Europe - All Boatilus shoes are made in Europe, meaning shorter transport routes and production under strong environmental regulations.
Thoughtful Packaging
Our packaging is part of our sustainability promise too. Our shoe boxes are made from 100% recycled materials, designed without adhesives using a glue-free construction, making it simple to recycle at home and our packaging is all recyclable.
When It’s Time for a Bigger Pair
When their shoes have been loved, worn and outgrown, we encourage families to keep them in circulation for as long as possible.
Pass them on
If they’re still wearable, gift or exchange them. In Europe, Boatilus supports this through its “Shoes Social Network”, reflecting our commitment to circular fashion. We’re working to introduce this in the UK, so watch this space.
Donate
Good-condition pairs can also be donated to charity shops, shoe banks at recycling centres, or textile and footwear collection points.
Recycle
All our soles carry the TRIMAN logo. Where local facilities allow, our single-material shoes can be recycled via household plastic recycling streams (please check your local council guidelines), helping transform them into new products rather than sending them to landfill or incineration.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Keep an eye out for our special Bioty sandal characters. Because caring for the planet is something we believe children can understand and feel proud of, we share these values through our fun, engaging cartoon series — helping little ones see how small steps can make a big impact.
